How the Conference was Started:
There were a handful of women who were meeting at a sponsor’s house one night a week, until the time came when the meeting couldn’t continue being there.
Janet G and Debbie G began meeting occasionally at Vanna W’s house. After a short time, they checked out some places where a women’s AA meeting could be held. Janet G spoke with the River Pines Public Utility District and on December 1st, 2004, the Wednesday night River Pines Serenity Sister’s meeting was started in River Pines, CA, at the town hall.
A couple years later, the Serenity Sister’s meeting realized that a women’s AA event was desperately needed in the foothills. Debbie G checked with the American Legion Hall and found it was available to rent. It was decided September was a good month. Debbie G took on decorating, Janet G became Chairperson & Treasurer, and the Serenity Sister’s meeting volunteered to help.
The first Central Foothills Women’s Conference was held September 15, 2007. There was a newcomer who was a caterer. She was helped by several ladies and the continental breakfast and the lunch were pleasing both to the eye and the stomach!
The Ladies Unity Day was started the same year in the same month and held in Lodi, CA. Not wanting to be in competition with them, our Conference was changed to the first Saturday in October. (The more women’s AA functions we can go to, the more unity we experience, the better we become).
The next few years Barbara N was the un-official food chairperson. She and the volunteers did a wonderful job and the food was enjoyed by all who attended.
The conference attendance grew and grew. Then an Official committee was formed. And the rest, as they say, is History!
We are very fortunate to be celebrating our (see below) annual Central Foothills Women’s Conference! And to continue this ladies Conference, please sign up to be on the Committee!
